The Jane Fores is a true old-growth forest. Individual trees may be up to 300 years old or more. The trees which dominate the forest are the Karri (Eucalyptus diversicolor), which grow up to 90 metres and has a smooth pink/grey bark. Jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata) grows to 60 metres and has striated bark and lighter green leaves. Marri (Eucalyptus calophylla) grows to 50 metres and has thick green foliage and abundant flowers that develop into the characteristic gum nuts.

Naturally, birds and animals are attracted to the old growth forest due to the provision of rich food supply and the protective canopy of vegetation. So you may well see native animals and birds along your path.
