Town of Walpole
Walpole was established in the 1930's as Group Settlement area. Timber milling soon followed. Now the region is famous for its Giant Red and Yellow Tingle trees, many over 400 years old.
The township of Walpole is located at the northern end of the Walpole and Nornalup Inlets. These safe and tranquil inlets lend themselves to canoeing, fishing and bush walking along the shore, as well as meandering amongst the giant Karri forests.
The National Parks surrounding Walpole were combined to form the Walpole Wilderness Area. Established in 2004, the Walpole Wilderness Area is a hot spot for biodiversity. The area protects wilderness areas, tingle forests, old-growth forests, wetlands as well as ancient flora and fauna. The Nornalup-Walpole Visitor Centre offers local information, located at the Pioneer Park only metres off the South Coast Highway.

Horseyard Hill Trail

This is a delightful interpretative walk illustrated by two local artists. Interpretative plaques explain the local flora and investigate the historic aspects of the area. The two kilometre loop winds through a pretty stand of Karri, Yellow Tingle and Marri forest. Named after the horseyard for Walpole's original group settlement, this is a great place to experience the forest near to town.
This walk departs from behind the Walpole-Nornalup Visitor Centre, located in Pioneer Park in the center of Walpole.
